St. Peter's Church of Uganda makes 115 years

ST. PETER'S CHURCH OF UGANDA DAY AND FUNDRAISING
The St. Peter's Church of Uganda Day and Fundraising held on November 14 2010 was a great success. The success was possible because some christians put in some extra effort to organize the event and also those precious vistors who boosted the fundraising drive. Thanks to Mr. Geoffrey Tayebwa who is still new to the area hence the Church but has a big heart to see it grow. His efforts made it possible to induce a number of guests who contributed to the big success. Also among other key players prior to the function and after is Mr and Mrs Lwanyaga whose efforts are greatly credited.

JONATHAN GYAGENDA WAS A PILLAR OF ST. PETER'S CHURCH OF UGANDA SSISA
Just day's to the fundraising function of St. Peter's Church of Uganda Ssisa, the whole of Ssisa sub - county was thrown into panic and real confusion when the sad news of the murder in clod blood of Gyagenda was learnt. The Late Jonathan was one of the pillars of St. Peter's Church of Uganda Ssisa and it was anticipated that he would boost the efforts of the day. This hope was never to be as on November 11, 2010 our dear friend and member of St. Peter's Church was shot as he drove to work.
As Christians we have nothing much to say, but pray that the good Lord grants the Late Jonathan Gyagenda eternal peace.

GUNMEN Thursday, 11 November 2010 morning shot dead an accountant in Entebbe as he drove to Kampala.
Jonathan Ddamulira’s killers, who were reportedly in a Toyota Prado, trapped him at Buzzi near Kawuku on Entebbe Road and shot him three times. The attack occurred at about 6:00am.
The bullets hit his chest, stomach and legs, according to Ronald Kasujja, a passenger in the double-cabin pickup Ddamulira was driving.
The officer in charge of criminal investigations at Entebbe, Fredrick Wetaya, said Ddamulira was a partner in Nexus and Company CPA located at the Teachers’ House on Bombo Road in Kampala suburb.
Ddamulira has been a qualified accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda for over four years, according to Simon Oola, the institute’s finance and administration manager.
“He (Ddamulira) seemed to be a quiet but brilliant man. He had a master’s degree and was pursuing a PhD at Makerere University,” Oola said on phone last night.
Earlier reports had said Ddamulira was a private auditor attached to the Ministry of Health.
Ddamulira’s relatives were yesterday still in shock when New Vision visited one of his residences at Zzuiru-Wamala, on Entebbe Road.
A relative hinted that Ddamulira was wealthy with farms in Gomba and two residences on Entebbe Road. The deceased, according to the relative, had just won three juicy contracts.
One of the contracts involved travelling to Mbale, where he was reportedly due to go next week.
Kasujja, the sole witness, recalled that as they approached Buzzi, the Prado flashed head-lights onto the pick-up. “We thought that it was the usual greeting most motorists use. After a few minutes, the same vehicle directed its beam towards us.
Suddenly, I heard gunshots and realised they were shooting at us. They immediately drove off,” he stated, adding that Ddamulira, in spite of the injuries and wailing for help, drove the vehicle into a nearby home where he died.
The Police identified Kasujja as Ddamulira’s neighbour at Zziru-Wamala near Kawuku, who often hitched a ride to Kampala.
John Kizza, who stays near the scene of attack, said shortly after the gunfire, he heard a vehicle approaching his residence only to see two men, one of them bleeding profusely.
Kizza alerted local authorities who pronounced Ddamulira dead.

Isaiah 66: 1-2: This is what the Lord says: "The heavens are my throne and the earth is my foolstool. Where is the House you will build forme? Where is the place where I will rest?"

Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi was elected by the House of Bishops of the Church of the Province of Uganda (Anglican) on 4th July 2003. He was enthroned the 7th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda on 25th January, 2004, at the Provincial Cathedral of St. Paul’s, Namirembe, Kampala, Uganda, and as the 6th Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala on 1st February, 2004, at All Saints Cathedral. POVERTY IN UGANDAN CHRISTIAN - ANGLICANS
By
Professor Gombya-Ssembajjwe William

Poverty is a negative word! It means great lack of money or resources; scarcity or inferior, etc. In my view the more a person is called poor the more that person sinks into the poverty trap. There are a number of questions one to ask him/herself concerning poverty in the Anglicans in Uganda. For example, why don’t we have everything we need or even want? Why are our lives not amazing and magnificent? Why haven’t we been able to do everything we want to do? Why aren’t we filled with joy everyday? Why do we sing the song of poverty - we are poor! , we are poor!! Why are we poor? Why do we blame others for the poverty situation we are in? What haven’t we done right? Etc. In this short article to mark the 115th birth of the St Peter’s Church of Uganda, Ssisa, I try to highlight interconnected issues if put in practice can help us to get out of poverty. They include: power, love, choice, feelings, gratitude, and money.

Power is the capacity to bring about change. To move from the life of scarce resources to life to plenty we need power. Power measures the rate at which energy flow. Energy is either positive or negative. Our living bodies emit energy as a result of movement of atoms within us. Therefore the energy we emit is either positive or negative. There is a law of attraction saying that ‘Like energies attract like energies’. The universe has both positive and negative energies. Good things are associated with positive energies and bad things with negative energies.

The universe (earth and heaven) was created by LOVE and through love (ref .to the Biblical story of creation in Genesis). Everything created was good because it was created by LOVE and through love. The power to have all the positive and good things in one’s life is love! So much has been written and talked about love, but most of us don’t understand the power the word love has! When you love you are using the greatest power in the universe. Love is the positive force (energy) of life and is the cause of everything positive and good in one’s life. Without love nothing good would exist! It is love that moves us from one situation to another e.g. from life of limitations to life of plenty, from poor health to good health, etc. Love is within you, so the power to change things is within you. Everybody needs love –why? Within our bodies are souls and for it to grow and develop it must be fed on love! If love is within us how come we live in poverty and sadness? You might not believe the answer which is because of the choice you make. You have a choice to make whether to love and harness the positive energies or not! At any particular moment in your life, you make choices. When you choose to love you will attract positive energies; when you choose to hate you attract negative energies! When you give out love you attract more love; when you give out hate you attract more hatred (ref. Luke 6:38). When you harbour positive thoughts you attract good things; and when you harbour negative thoughts you attract bad things like poverty! So think and talk about good things and love every thing and everybody. But the choice is yours!

When God created the human being HE gave him/her freedom to make choice. You are free to choose between good and bad, between obeying God and satan, etc. When you choose to love, love will be attracted to you; when you choose to hate, hatred will be attracted to you. What you give out, you receive back But be wise to choose that which will give you good feelings.

God created feeling senses within our bodies and they are:- eyes to see; ears to hear; nose to smell; tongue to taste; skin for touch; and the sense to perceive, awareness, be conscious. How you feel right now is creating your life (life responds to your feeling) Feelings inhuman beings are like fuel in a vehicle, they are the fuel for wards and thoughts. Love the source of good feelings and we make decisions based on how we feel. When you think of poverty, you will talk about poverty and you will start deciding how poor you are and eventually you become poor! This is true to any situation you can think of. When you have good feelings, you imagine of good things and you create good things/situations. We relate to the Creator by feelings of deep and profound gratitude.

There is only one Creator who gives everything we desire. Therefore it is imperative that we show our deep and profound gratitude to Him. How by giving to others what we have, and what we have in plenty is love. Giving and share your love, money and things with others is a greater mover from situations of limited resources to situations of plenty! Be thankful! Every day be thankful to the Creator and tell Him of the things you love! He does not want to hear things you hate. Lack of gratitude leads to conditions of lacking! A grateful soul lives in closer touch with Creator. You want to be wealth let your soul stay closer to God! Gratitude is the great multiplier!!! Love what you do! Work out of love not out of money. Never put money ahead of LOVE.

THIS DAY - Look To This Day! A well lived Today makes every Yesterday a Dream of Happiness, and Every Tomorrow a Vision of Hope, Look well, therefore, To This Day

BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT THE CHURCH
St. Peters Ssisa Church of Uganda was started in 1885; initially on top of the hill where there is one acre of land that belongs to the Church. It is from up the hill that it was eventually transferred to the current location on a site of 10 acres. The transfer was facilitated by the Late Lazaalo Ssebayizzi who was the Lay Reader at the time together with Ssisa Sub - county Chief Yosia Ssensalire. The new structure then was grass thatched.

In 1958, the christians decided to put up a new church using clay bricks. This work wasled by Erick Kyazze and the then Ssisa Sub - county Chief yakobo Kasule. The work on the new structure started on November 22, 1959. yakobo Kasule pledged that in case he died before the completion of the Church, his properties be sold tosee the Church completed. many christians made sacrifices to see the church completed at a cost of Uganda Shs 14,571/70.The amount however excluded doors among other things which were contributed in kind.

The Church has 4 pieces of land as follows:
1. 1 acre at the top of the hill where the 1st Church building was located
